Few things bring people together like food. Sunday First Family Church, our home church in Ankenky, IA, held its annual International Dinner. Each of the Lighthouse small groups had its own table and filled it with dishes from a country of their choice. There was cuisine from Chile, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Germany, the USA, and many other places. As far as church potlucks go, the International Dinner is the premier event!
It wasn’t all food and games though. The focus of the dinner was missions. Several missionaries had displays setup amongst the food tables. A wide variety of ministries and missions fields were represented including Australia, Sweden, the Drake campus in Des Moines, Utah, the Muslim world. Stephanie and I also setup an MAF table as well. It included a very nice display board created by a lady at MAF headquarters in Nampa, ID. Since most of our presentations have been to small groups and individuals we haven’t had many opportunities to use it. It was nice to get it out and use it. Thankfully mom and dad were there to help us manage the kids!
Following the food everyone moved to the sanctuary. I was privileged to start the program portion of the event with a brief presentation on MAF and our ministry in D.R. Congo. My presentation lasted about ten minutes, and then there was a fun State of the Gospel activity showing trends in world evangelism. It was really interesting to see just how much of a need sill exists for missionaries to go to certain parts of the world! The evening ended with everyone splitting into small groups for prayer. It was a great night!
